What exactly is a security screen? We have been asked this
on more than one occasion. Let me first clarify that security
screens are not security bars, although they perform the same duty,
security bars give a home or business an institutional appearance.
Security screens on the other hand do not take away from the curb
appeal that most people are seeking as well as feeling safe while at
home or away.
Lets discuss the make up of an ALLGOOD security screen.
EXTRUSIONS: All series of ALLGOOD's sub-frames,
main frames, flat bar, center bar, hinges even down to the latch
housings we use on our SPR-Latches are all 6063-T5 extruded
aluminum. Depending on which seriesyou choose determines the wall
thickness of the frames. Most all of our screens have a wall
thickness of .062 (1/16") we do offer a series with a wall thickness
of .080 ( between 1/16" & 1/8"). Most homes would fall into the .062
range. All series of ALLGOOD screens come in standard colors of Mill
Finish (unpainted), Bronze or White, special colors are available.

STAINLESS STEEL WIRE MESH:
ALLGOOD offers a variety of stainless steel wire, lets start with
.012 Ga 30 x 30 mesh. This is a very fine wire mostly used in the
filter business. .012 is the thickness of the wire, a little less
than 1/64 of an inch. 30 x 30 mesh means that for every square inch
you have 30 strands running horizontal and 30 strands running
vertical again this is used mostly in the filter business and we do
not advise having this wire painted.
.018 Ga 16 x 16: The wire thickness of this product is a little
shy of insect screen found in most homes. Again 16 x 16 means 16
strands horizontal and 16 strands vertical per square inch. This
wire can be painted if one doesn't mind the wire being a little
wavy, by nature this wire is wavy anyway.
.023 Ga 12 x 12: The wire thickness of this products is between
1/64th and 1/32 nd of an inch This wire offers a little more
strength and can easily be painted.
.028Ga 12 x 12: This is the most commonly used wire in the
security screen industry. This wire is very strong and can easily
withstand even an ax being used on it. We are not saying an ax will
not rip it but once the wire is hit directly it does not create a
hole big enough for a person to climb through. "We Tried It". This
wire also is easily painted. Note:
.035 Ga 12 x 12: We use this wire in our hurricane screens, it
passed the rigid impact test that Florida code demands and passed
hands down. This wire also is easily painted.
The .018, .023, .028 and .035 comes in a natural color or can be
powder coated black, bronze or white.

HINGES:
We offer a .050 aluminum piano hinge and a stainless steel hinge
1/2 x 1/2, 3/4 x 3/4, 1 x 1. once again these can be powder coated
to match the color of the main frames.
LATCHES:
We use stainless steel barrel bolt latches, one on each side that
requires both hands to operate or our patented SPR-LATCH that
requires only one hand to operate.
Now back to security screens vs. security bars. Most windows
today come double hung with a full screen allowing fresh air into
the room or a full sunscreen to minimize the damaging rays of the
sun. ALLGOOD Security Screens are mounted directly to the window and
thus appears that it belongs there. Security Bars on the other hand
looks just like security bars i.e.. Out of place. Security screens
also protect the whole window from vandals, burglars and flying
debris, while security bars do not protect the glass or window thus
creating maintenance cost to the home owner.
Your home is usually your single largest investment. The factory-trained experts at ALLGOOD Home Improvement, Inc. give your home the respect it deserves while providing neat, efficient, warranted installations.
